A Browser Survivor-Like for Mobile & Desktop

Void Descent is a survivor-like auto-shooter designed to be played instantly in a browser. No downloads or installs. The game was heavily influenced by the tactical build-crafting of Soulstone Survivors and The Spell Brigade. It is meant for quick sessions where you can jump in and start a run immediately.

Unique Mechanics

  • Time Dilation: This is the panic button. If you lift your thumb from the screen or let go of the mouse, the game slows to 10% speed. It makes it easier to navigate tight spots or look away for a second without losing a run.
  • Mobile and Desktop Support: The game is locked to portrait for one-handed mobile play, but also has full WASD and mouse support for desktop players.
  • Save System: You can use the manual import and export system to move your ship unlocks and Nexus progress between your phone and your computer.

The Fleet

There are 6 ships to unlock. Each has a unique primary weapon and its own role:

Ship Primary Weapon Role
Pathfinder Ion Cannons All-Rounder
Engineer Auto-Turret Zone Control
Disruptor EMP Pulse Crowd Control
Vanguard Kinetic Barrier Juggernaught
Reaper Bladestorm Glass Cannon
Catalyst Elemental Surge Caster

Augment Lab and Meta Progression

The core of the game is the build variety. Based on the current weapons and elemental upgrades, there are over 10 million possible loadout combinations to discover during a run and that's BEFORE you unlock your first augment.

  • The Augment Lab: Spend Nexus Cores and Quantum Singularities earned during runs to permanently unlock passive buffs.
  • Nexus Ascension: Take your lab upgrades into Ascension runs. Once you beat the final boss, you unlock 5 levels of difficulty modifiers to further test your builds.
  • Endless Mode: Clearing the Nexus levels unlocks the endless Void Descent.

I've run into a bug where saving an augment like "+20% damage" turns into like "20% area" for the next level gained. I even saved a elemental combo augment and then the next level i had two of it to pick from. Enjoying the game and all, needs more music choices though for sure.

Thank you so much for the feedback I will look into that bug asap!

Keep an eye out for future updates. I will definitely add more over time.

Update: both bugs have been fixed, check out the devlog!

Great game!  I really like the feel of it. Perfect for when you go somewhere and have to wait or just wish to take a break from work. And the fact that everything slows down when you take the finger from the screen *chef's kiss* I saw the comment and know that it was not implemented for this but i do like to just take the finger on and off the screen when I'm in a ditch to more easily navigate the bullet & enemy hell.

There are some bugs that I wish to report tho, that I will just drop in here cause I was not able to put them in another place:
phone - android
both on phone and pc i was using firefox
1. when you import a save it seems the ships you bought are not carried along? tried to import to pc browser and the 2nd ship (which i have bought on the phone) was not bought (a workaround to not spend cores was to buy it, then re-import my save which allowed me to have my ships and my cores) (managed to also reproduce it on phone using a private window so no cookies are )
2. (on phone)had to switch between normal and desktop mode and back for the augment lab button to appear (yes i have defeated the final boss of normal mode)
3. entering the augment lab does not load the augments

and this is the error code from the console:

As such I'm unable to progress to next difficulty:(

Hope those help <3 and good luck with the game!

Glad to hear you're enjoying the game, and thank you for the bug reports! I just recently did a big refector so I'm still on the hunt for issues, but I'll get these fixed up asap. Keep an eye on the page for updates!

What a perfect browser-based survivorslike! Very smart how it slows down when you take your hand off the mouse. Perfect for idle play on a mindless phone call but easy to interrupt when you need to focus. I really like the roguelike upgrade options -- well thought out and well implemented. Keep up the great work!

Thank you so much, this really means a lot!

The slow-down mechanic was completely intentional for exactly that reason so I'm really glad it came across as a feature and not a bug.

I was also super happy to hear the augment system felt well thought out, that was probably the most work to balance. Hope you keep enjoying it!
